Fire Safety

October 20, 2015 | Blog

It’s that time of year again, when you put away the flip flops and trade them in for an oversized sweater and boots.

October 4-10 is also fire prevention week here in Indiana, a week to take a little bit of time to learn the safety tips behind fires. Families are getting together, and friends are gathering around a bonfire to sing songs and enjoy the chilly weather. When building a bonfire, avoid injury and accidents…be sure to only build it as high as you want to stay outside and be around the fire, a good rule of thumb is to add 3 regular sized logs for each hour you want to stay outside. This will help prevent accidental grass/forest fires, or even a nearby home from catching fire. Be sure to build something around the bonfire like a circle made of stone or rocks to keep the fire in a closed in location. Lastly, always keep a bucket of water around, in case a few embers escape the circle. Enjoy the beautiful fall weather and colors this year, remember to take precautions first when building fires!
