An Indiana State Trooper was seriously injured early Saturday morning when he was hit by a suspected drunk driver.
According to reports, Master Trooper Dan Hearon and his K-9 partner were patrolling about 1:30 a.m. when Billy S. Patterson hit the patrol car with the sports utility vehicle he was driving.
The crash happened near State Road 39 and Garfield Avenue. Patterson was heading east on State Road 39 and he turned into Hearon’s patrol car when Patterson failed to yield.
Hearon was air lifted to a nearby hospital. His condition has not been released.
Patterson was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury and possession of a controlled substance.
