September 26, 2016 | Brain and Spinal Injury

Two girls were injured on Monday, September 12th in an ATV accident that occurred Anderson, Indiana, approximately 40 miles from Indianapolis. According to a report published at CBS4Indy.com,1 a 17-year-old and 5-year-old were found injured by medical personnel who were responding to a report of a crash on private property. Both girls had suffered head injuries and neither was wearing a helmet.

Head Injuries are a Common Result of Vehicle Accidents

While the risks associated with ATVs has been well-documented for years, the reality is that any type of vehicle accident can result in a serious head injury. Even when vehicle occupants are wearing seatbelts or helmets, the forces involved in an accident are often sufficient to cause a concussion or even a more serious form of traumatic brain injury2 (TBI).

Head Injuries Can Result in Serious Complications

People who sustain head injuries often suffer serious complications that can last for months. Some of the symptoms of head injuries that can last for a significant period of time include the following:

Headaches

Dizziness

Difficulty concentrating

Sleep disturbances

Mood swings

Memory problems

Headaches

Depression

Not surprisingly, people who experience these and other TBI complications often miss a significant amount of work and experience substantial physical and emotional pain and suffering. Fortunately, these and other losses associated with brain injuries are often compensable by filing a personal injury claim.
